Depression, exploring signs, symptoms, and ways to care a loved one mental health with guest Alex Cameron

This week on Unpacked we are chatting with guest Alex Cameron, Psychotherapist  with a Masters of Social Work at his own practice. Alex returns to chat with us about depression. Alex has a wide and varied wealth of professional experience. He was the coordinator of a provincially funded domestic violence counselling program that focused on males that had been the primary victim of violence from another. During this time, Alex also worked with perpetrators of violence in both group and individual counselling of both genders. We chat with Alex about his life and lessons he has personally had to keep learning and unlearning.  With a unique instagram handle the @thetattooedtherapist he shares how representation is important for men in therapy and regularly works with both men and boys to overcome toxic masculinity. Alex shares his perspective with us on the official definition of depression versus low mood. The common signs and symptoms, what it looks like to care for a loved one or friend who is struggling and how we can be more aware of the boundaries in caring for someone with mental health struggles. Alex specializes in anxiety, depression, stress, and relationships.

Unpacked is a podcast exploring life as messy people. It’s conversations with counsellors, leaders, storytellers discussing the experiences of being human.
