Exploring masculinity, vulnerability and the barriers in mens mental health with guest Alex Cameron
This week on Unpacked we are chatting with guest Alex Cameron, Psychotherapist with a Masters of Social Work at his own practice. We chat with Alex about masculinity, vulnerability and the barriers in mens mental health. Alexander has a wide and varied wealth of professional experience. He was the coordinator of a provincially funded domestic violence counselling program that focused on males that had been the primary victim of violence from another. During this time, Alex also worked with perpetrators of violence in both group and individual counselling of both genders. We chat with Alex about his life and own relationship to his emotions and what he sees in his practice as the challenges for men in accessing mental health help. With a unique instagram handle the @thetattooedtherapist he shares how representation is important for men too and regularly works with both men and boys to overcome toxic masculinity. Alex shares his perspective with us on how we can raise more emotionally aware boys and what walks us through what counselling is like for anyone (but in particular) the concerns he hears from men. Alex specializes in anxiety, depression, stress, and relationships.
