Exploring and approaching self-harm with guest Ashely Vogelaar, Registered Provisional Psychologist

This week on Unpacked we are chatting with guest Ashley Vogelaar, Registered Provisional Psychologist in Airdrie, Alberta.  Ashely chats with us about self harm and her modality of therapy Dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT)  to treat the behaviour. We chat with Ashley on the intent behind self harm, how to assess the risk, the strategies to take when caring for someone who is carrying out self harm and how to regulate your own emotions in the moment of crisis. Ashley shares with us some of the root causes of self harm and the ways parents and caregivers can begin to support and approach new ways of coping.  She shares her background of becoming a psychologist and her passion to have the tools to share in order to help people to find freedom and healing.
